I have been making Jeff Lang’s acoustic guitars for the last 15 years and it has been my privilege to do so. At present he has three 6 strings, a 12 string and a lap steel. The Churchill’s feature on every album he has made.
Jeff is an exceptional talent in all respects, as a singer, songwriter and guitar player. We have worked together on many projects and there have been many hours spent in my workshop. He has an uncanny understanding of the guitar.
Thanks a million Jeff..
I met Colin at the Port Fairy Folk festival, when he was checking out guitars in the instrument makers exhibition. So it was a great honour when he commissioned me to construct a guitar for him. A Churchill dreadnought, western red cedar,Indian rosewood, with a sunburst soundboard. A great guitar ? I think so, just ask Colin. A fantastic songwriter, singer and guitar player, a nicer man you wouldn’t meet.
I met Ray when he was at a music show at Darling Harbour in Sydney when he was just 16 years old. That year he had his first Churchill.
He is an outstanding player and performer, has worked solo as well as with his band, and for a time teamed up with the King brothers making the album “Down Home Bebop”.
His solo CD “Moving On” shows off his great ability.
Adam has been a supporter of my guitars for a few years now. He owns a small body cutaway and a lapsteel. The guitars are also featured on all his Albums.
As a guitar player he ranks with the best, with great songs and a full on approach to performing. He teams up with Marji Curran for a great Band (The Adam Hole and Marji Curran Band).
Kim was performing at the 2010 Port Fairy Folk festival, and came to look at my guitar in the Instrument makers exhibition. He bought it there and then. A Churchill dreadnought, western red cedar, Indian Rosewood, fitted with a West active pick up, and a sunrise magnetic. This young man ia an amazing talent, great singer and guitar player, if you get the chance, go and see him, you wont be disappointed.
Matt is a player who can cover many styles, jazz, blues, folk and classical, and does them all so well. Many would have seen him when he supported Billy Connolly a few years back on his Aussie tour. His Churchill played all performances, from the Melbourne concert Hall to the Sydney Opera House. You might catch him playing jazz on a Sunday arvo at the National Gallery or at major gigs at folk festivals. He is always working
I met Shannon at a guitar show when he was just 13. I remember him saying “I’m going to have one of those Churchill’s one day”
It must have been 8 years later when he came to the workshop to order his own.
He is a fantastic player with an inventive, classy style. His partnership with Chris Wilson has been very fruitful and it’s always worth seeing them perform.
Fitzie is the only man who calls me “churchie”
(I think I am named after his guitar)
He is an authentic blues man with endless talent and ability.
A true Australian , he is well known at all the festivals.
He is currently teamed up with Cara Robinson for a great Duo.
David Ross Macdonald
I first met Dave at the National Folk Festival in Canberra a few years back as a drummer with the Waifs. He had some spare time between gigs so he checked out the musical instrument makers tent. He became a Churchill owner that day.
He is a delightful finger picker and has a rare talent for song writing.
His album “Southern Crossing” is a fine example of his work and also is a unique showcase and promotion of Australian Luthiers. His new album “Far from Here” is superb. Always on tour somewhere around the globe.
There is not much that Ashley doesn’t know about slide guitar. So when he asked me to make him a Jeff Lang modal Lap Steel, it was a true honour. Western red cedar,Indian Rosewood back and sides, with a sunburst finish, cream bindings. I have to say it looks stunning, with a matching sound. Ashley plays with The Lamplights, a rearly good outfit, you cant miss him, as he stands up whilst playing this instrument.
I first met Phil three years ago after a workshop I gave at The Thredbo blues festival. Phil ordered a guitar that day, a small body, western red cedar Indian Rosewood guitar, fitted with a Sunrise pick up. Phil travels up and down the country with his wife Trudy in a campervan, playing as many gigs as he can. An exciting performer, powerful playing, with strong vocals. And the guitar? Its always with him.
Jeff and Ron King are founding members of the Foreday Riders.
Jeff has had his Churchill for about ten years now and it’s done plenty of work in that time at many festivals and shows. Jeff has a sweet style of playing and is always a pleasure to hear and watch.
Marie has cheked out many of my guitars over the years, at shows and festivals. She knows about guitars, having owned many fine instruments. In 2010 she found The Churchill, which, as she put it,” does it all”. A fine fingerstyle player, as well as many other styles, so I am glad she found this guitar. Churchill dreadnought, western red cedar, Indian Rosewood. Marie is out there, working hard, doing lots of gigs. Welcome to the owners club Marie.
Kim is a well known Perth musician and a fine guitar player.
He owns an early 6 string of mine and a 12 string which I know he loves. His album “Strangedays” is well worth owning.
Dirk is well known as a member of “Chain”.
He is also a solo blues artist and a fine musician and guitar player. He often performs with Lil’Fi.
His first inspirations were drawn from the roots of the blues, where he nourished his talents in the influence of The Greats… His road next led him to the Folk Giants of the 60’s and 70’s, where he was transported by their electric detours in the psychedelic years….
Recently, friends have introduced him to Australia’s “disturbed folk” scene, and he has become, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the French spokesperson.
In July 2011, having composed more then 100 songs, he made the decision to invest in a recording studio in Paris for three days. In a calculated urgency he recorded ten of these 100. From this experience emerged an auto-produced opus: “Pachydermal lies and truth”.
A sound of softness and distortion; a sharp and precise musical phrasing; a hot, powerful and envelopping voice. You will be pulled into his universe, so personal, in which you will not be able to escape indifferent…
Chris Matthews is one of Australia’s finest and well respected singer/songwriter/guitarist. His style of blues, country, rock and roll are all played with heaps of passion and astonishing guitar work
It is a real honour to have him playing one of my guitars www.chrismatthewsmusic.com
